The "Magic Lure" etc

The Surfcaster puts out a "Magic Lure" which is basically a yellow jointed Rebel. Anyone use this successfully?

Another plug stated in the catalog is the Gaines Phillips Super Maverick Swimmer, but there is no photo, only an illustration for the last several years! (Catalog and Online)

I wouldn't mind buying a GPSMS but it would be nice to see a photo of the darn thing! Do they ever, EVER update the catalog?

Sheeesh!

Thumbs up

I LOVE IT!

It's a small jointed wooden scandinavian style swimmer with a chartreuse belly and green back ("parrot.")

I have slaughtered weakfish, speckled trout, and small red drum on it. Stripers love it too. Oh yeah so do fluke if you're fishing current at night.

Use it at night or during the day when the water is really muddy.

Thanks. I actually have the magic lure, just never used. I replaced the hooks to a more beefy set. I hope I didnt kill the action.

Would you know where I can get a photo of the Maverick? The Surfcaster's diagram on papyrus just won't cut it. LOL

The "Majic lure is just that Majick if fished in the correct conditions. You know those nights when you can't see your reel when holding your rod.....throw the Magic in skinny water and hold on.

IMO The fast-rac is a trolling plug and is loved by many but poorly made. If catches fish but does not hold up well. the eye is screwed into to plastic lip and the hook hangers get all bent out of shape if you catch a big bluefish on it. That said, I have a box of them and LOTS of guys swear by them esp trolling for bones and albies.
Frankly for trolling I like the rebel "Sliver" it is similar to the fasttrack but has a stainless lip, vmc hooks and a better internal wire. I have caught 70 fish with it in a day (blues, bones and albies) and even though there is little paint left on it the terminal gear is solid and it still catches.

Thanks for the Maverick photo.

I think I do have one in black top.white side and bottom. Seems to have more of a roll than side to side action.
