The Albie dance
Hi everybody, yes my fish held out and took 1st place in the all tackle division of the MV derby. I still can't believe it. Baitcaster and I went back over to MV on Sat. night which is the last night of the derby, we stayed with our very good friends squidmama & rollie who graciously gave us a place to stay. We did some fishing while we were there, and things have slowed down a bit. Yesterday we did a beach run to Wasque and Cape Pogue, only saw a couple of fish, did a few chinese firedrills, I hooked up once and lost it, didn't even know what it was, we saw some other fish coming up just on the edge of the beach, and none of us could hook up as the weed was really bad, but we enjoyed the ride tremendously, the beauty over there is just incredible. I have to say that now that the derby is over the beaches look like a ghost town.
The highlight for me at the awards ceremony was the next generation of fishermen to walk these shores, it was great to see these little ones, some of which are only 5 years old stand up there on that stage after catching a fish of a lifetime, my hat goes off to them!!!!!!!
John R, sorry about the truck, it is actually drawn from all people who enter the derby, and sorry but it was not your name that was drawn. As for the boat, I don't get a shot at the boat, because for the Albies they combine the fly rod division and the all tackle division only one person gets a key. But I got alot of nice prizes, rod & reel, alot of lures, line, and airator for a live well, hooks and a nice plaque which I will be getting in a few weeks.
But the highlight for me this year on MV, was having my mom & dad there, fishing side by side with me in the surf, and my mom, who suffered a major heart attack last year, and couldn't come to the vineyard, land her 1st every False Albacore. Way to go mom!!!!!!
Sorry we didn't make it to the Octoberfish, maybe next year, sounds like you all had a great time.

Congratulations, It sound like you had a great time and some wonderful experiences. It makes me think maybe I should do the derby next year. I'd just have to plan it ahead of time. I have not done any work out there in over 10 years , sounds like I should be looking for some cabinet work out on the Island for next fall.
Glad to hear your fish held up for first.

Thanks guys, it is just great fishing over there, so many species to fish for, and such beautiful spots to fish. Being able to still drive down the beaches in a 4WD. Does life get any better, all you do is eat, sleep and fish. Thats pretty hard to take for 3 weeks!!!!!
Slipknot, I would highly recommend it!!!! It would be well worth the trip.

Cool deal Fisherwoman. Hope you enjoy the fame and fortune, but I hope it doesn't change you... I know you have a tendency to "brag" a bit... sorry, couldn't help myself.
Seriously, that's awsome and you deserve it. I know how much time and work you guys put into it... if you can call it work.
Maybe next year you'll catch the fish that gets you a key. Sounds like everyone had a blast over there. Maybe I'll tag along for a couple days in Derby 2001.
In the meantime, I'm outty for some much needed R&R... No doubt there will be about 5 million fewer people at our little secret lake in the Province of Ontario, than there were at Disneyworld (my last vacation). The local population is somewhere around 10.
But, when I get back, Karen and I would like to fish with you and Baitcaster before its all over. She really wants to get out one more time and I enjoy fishing once in a while too.
Hope to talk to you when I'm back in the States... later.

Hey Schoolie Monster, we would love to get together with you and Karen, and I know just the spot, so let us know when you get back. Thanks for the kind words about the fish, it was beautiful, have never gotten one that big, talk about a screamer, it spooled me 3 times and took me 25 minutes to get it on the beach, was a total rush. Hope you can come and play next year, that would be great, 2 people from PA on MV what will they do!!!!!
Hope you have a great vaca. let me know when you get back.

Fisherwoman, I had to comment on one of your replies. A lot of my friends cannot comprehend the fact that I or anyone can have SO MUCH fun "in a 4WD on the beach, just eating, sleeping, and fishing" !!! It truly IS the life!!!! Now if I could only find a way to make money out there and never have to leave!!!

Hi Jenn, I think the only way any of us will truely be able to do that is to hit the lottery. How has your fishing been, I hope well. We will try and hook up in the spring, know some great spots on the cape.

Fisherwoman, I have not had the best of luck this year, unfortunately. I also have not been out as much as I would have liked either! My husband and I love the Cape ( we stay in North Truro and drive out on Race Point) Actually that is about all we have ever done . I have been going there since I was two! I have never had a desire to visit any other areas! ( of course if need be I CAN be persuaded )
And the eating part...well we LOVE to eat! We may be camping and out on the beach, but we certainly do not skimp on the food! HA!HA! I am a person who NEEDS my coffee...coffee made on the beach.....steamed lobstah on the grill (mmmmmm...) , Fresh, delicious fish, homemade clam chowdah, ooh the list goes on and on......hungry yet???
Sleeping! only when we HAVE too! And fishing? as much as we can stand while we are there!!!
And the 4WD on the beach??? I wouldn't have it any other way!!! Especially when I get to drive the big bad truck!!! HA!HA!
GREAT! Now you have me daydreaming about it! So, how many more months till we go?

Hey Jenn, your killin me, we only have about 5 months to go for the cape, but don't give up yet either, because there are still some fish around, but it is more a game of seek and find, you never know what may hit that line. We will keep in touch and definately get together!!!! Although we get bass on the cape usually around the last week of April if not before, Mid May is hot for decent bass and blues. So we will let ya know.

Beach buggy fishing is awesome! I love cruising up and down the beach looking for some action... fishing action that is... me being a married man and all.
We vacation on Nantucket in the fall and I love getting up early morning and heading out oversand. Catching fish isn't always necessary either.
Just being out there alone on the beach rain or shine, searching for signs of fish... working birds or busting bait... Jumping out when the water looks just right and tossin' plugs for a couple minutes...its the best.

Fisherwoman, OH DARN!!! we normally go down within the first few weeks that the stickers are available (mid to end of April) and often once in May (usually Memorial day) hmmm...gee that timing sounds pretty good to me!!! The fivemonth thing sounds kind of bad but I have this plan.....fishing season gets me through until winter...and snowmobiling gets me through until just about the beginning of fishing weather!!!! It usually works pretty well to keep my mind from longing for the "season of the sport" !! Both are passions for me .....but is gets pretty rough in Nov. and Mid March-Mid April!!!! Heh!Heh! You do have me anxious for April already though!!! But just remember YOU STARTED IT!!!

Well Jenn, when fishing ends in November-December, I usually rest a little 'til March comes around. Get a chance to build a new rod or two, rework some gear, and go for a couple months without my knee swelling up from the abuse... That's if I don't hit any of the "Winter Holdover Spots" 8) but with the kid coming ???

Yes I am enjoying it! Life is to short and to precious to let slip by. Many people get on our case about when we will have children but we both agree we do not! Hey ten years from now we may feel different but for now I am happy being an auntie (you can give them back when they act up!! )
My husband and I agree on the subect and also feel it would be more selfish to HAVE children when we do not want them than it is to just have them!!
