maybe for vertical jiggin.I think in currents like the canal.a fish has a millisecond to decide wether to strike or not as the jig passes him in the hole.smells make no difference.color or size might be more important.Plus who needs all that mess I fish with a guy puts smelly jelly on everything I can't remember him outcatching me.U get that stuff on ur hand then its on the handle of the rod an becomes slippery an generally a pain in the butt. Now maybe in slower currents or on some lures like rigged rubber eels smelly jelly is a plus. There was a Lure maker from NJ called Makati used to put little sponges around the swivels so it would take sent.i never did it.u would have to use lots of sent on his plugs as some models didn't swim to good.
