After the catch. Woolner used a plastic Herring Blue Mottled Atom P-40 and Gowdy used a Gibbs Yellow Darter. You can view this tape at the IGFA Museum in Ft. Lauderdale.

I've got a few I'll have to dig out -

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.

A few weeks ago I ordered a book off of Amazon byt Hal Lyman. It was one of his two books on bluefishing. To my surprise it was a perfect copy of the 1950 first printing. Only paid $7 for it. I'd like to post a photo but I always have issues for some reason.
I've done pretty well obtaining old surf fishing/fishing books. The hardest one to find so far is a book on Weakfishing by Frank Woolner.

Frank wrote the article.... and...
Woolner's #13 on that buggy, bet that is Flap's boat on the roof!
The twin to that GMC 2 door Suburban is sitting on Monument Road in Orleans... parked under tha trees rotting away.... I'm trying to scopp it for a project buggy... (like I need ANOTHER project )
Always wanted one from that vintage though.... this one has the Napco kit, just like Woolner's did.

covers
I have all the covers from the big three mags 1920-1970.
I posted the surf ones a few years back on the other site.
I also posted surf articles inside F&S from 1940-1970.
There are roughly 80.
This is still the best piece of surf art I have seen.
It has mood.

The $350.00 giclee is on Coheleach's site or check the THE online auction site.

Mike,
A year or two ago that print was up for sale at least a dozen times on ebay. It was quite interesting with the worm suspended like that. The bass were very well drawn I must say.
