Row Dylunduh

Ya know, John, once you're a Row Dylunduh, you're one for life. At those moments in the wee hours when sleep creeps up on you whilst standing on a rock, you may find yourself chanting a mantra to stay awake, "Grinder, cabinet, coffee milk, bubbler, Salty Brine, stuffies and johnnycakes". Or something like that

Bone up on local history, too. The Blizzard of 78 is a good starting point.

Weeeelll, so your really not a Nyawka but really a Row Dylunduh ?? Damn, I even had that spelled wrong, but what do you expect from a M#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& ? I'll have to ask about '78 as I wasn't even a m#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& then. I was a redneck from Baltmore,Merylind....

So how was the Vineyard??? Worked down and up island a couple nights to little avail and had albies down at Wasque (of course)...

D Powell, the short version...

I lived in Pasadena (Bodkin Creek) 'til I was 10, moved up to mass until 1/2 way through freshman year, moved back down to Pasadena (Rivera Beach) and went to Northeast for a little while before going to Patch American High School, Stuttgart, at the time West Germany (second largest beerfest in the world, Bad Cannstadter, was 15 minutes from my high school 8) ) Similar to an army brat... I was a DOD brat... But when we got back to MD from Germany in '86, I had to move away from all the chickeneckers down there by the worter and come back to lovely New England :P

Yep, born in Pawtucket, graduated from St Ray's in 1971. Or just plain old "Saints" if you're a Pawtucketeer. Hopefully, I'll get to retire to South County if I can convince da bride--selling point, 20 minutes to Foxwoods, 20 minutes in the other direction to the Christmas Tree Store in Warwick--and the malls, too.

Tim, Dubs and I had a blast over the Vineyard---Tim is an amazing fisherman, he adapts to strange waters faster than anyone I've ever seen. We found fish in the teens at the Gut the first night we were there, and stayed on them the whole week. I'm not strong enough yet to do the Death March (can I use that term here without causing offense ) so we didn't try Squibnocket, which is where most of the daily winners were coming from. The action at the Gut was steady, and to my great dismay and surprise, eels were being ignored while they were whacking the crap out of plugs. I took one fish on a snake the whole week, and that was just as the tide was starting to move after slack. And I fished them for at least a couple of hours every night thinking I had a better shot at a slob with an eel over a plug. The bite cooled Friday under the full moon with calm winds--that's the night I needed the snakes, but we burned all of them up during the week and didn't replace them since we were doing so well on artificials.

I'll tell you. The bass fishing was tough the week before. I didn't fish as hard as I wanted as I was sick for most of the week but it was fairly slow. The only large shore bass at that time I was aware of were coming between Squibby and Philbin's Beach, on eels and they were a slow pick at that. One other individual I know, fishing solo, was weighing in fish every morning and usually one of the top 4 daily leaders. He was fishing somewhere between Katama and Chilmark Pond but not too sure where. He did really find the fish and stayed on them. I managed one barely legal and a few hits (eels) on about a 1/2 death march to Squibby. Several of us fished the Gut, both sides for a few nights, drop and incoming, eels, plugs, teasers you name it but the bass, which were busting all around wouldn't hit much of anything. No shortage of weeds though ... Dad-of-Squidkid managed a smaller keeper there one night.

Paul Shultz was saying that some nice 20+#ers were coming in that tight drop off next to Dykes Bridge running out to Pouge Pond...

'Twas a blast though - can't wait until next year... Get any Albies 8)

John, were you fishing with Bob McKay while you were there? I ran into him on Friday night at the Gut. Paul got his weekly winner at Philbin's. I wonder if he still has his key to the gate a little farther back on Moshup's Trail? Houses have been changing hands over there, his "in" was the caretaker of the property who was an old high school buddy of his. New owner, maybe a new caretaker? As of about 5 years ago, that caretaker beached his 12th 50#+ lifetime from those waters.

95% of the people who go to the Vineyard look at the water near Dike Bridge and think it's too thin to hold fish--yet, I've seen daily winners come out of both that place and Tom's Neck Narrows, which you could sling an eel clean across.

Fish with Bubba? Naw... We ran into each other down at Wasque for the morning tuny ritual but didn't striper fish with him. I wish I had because in addition to being a very nice and knowledgable guy, he's connected ;D

Gatehouse, never, uh, ahem, heard of no stinkin' "Gatehouse" Up near Moshop Trail I'm not sure how to answer that one for you but I can honestly say that I did not (very unfortunately) go that far up. As far as the access to the "Gatehouse", and wether Bobby fished with Paul up there, well rumor had it still available...
