I've got a stupid 'newbie' question...

When do people start striper fishing on a regular basis? Last year I went out with Bill and Jules a few times, and it was awesome. So, was just curious as to when things really start getting busy...

Here on Long Island, fish usually start to show up around April, but May is when it really gets going...

End of April schoolies are normally found in some of the bays and rivers on the Cape. Holdovers but fun on real light gear. Head south into R.I. or the Thames River and you could be catching stripers today. But with the cold and ice this year who knows if the holdovers lived and whats going to happen. By the first week of May stripers are usually caught with regularity in the canal. All we have to do now is wait for the water temps to rise and the herring to arrive.

most sports fish more regular after they catch there first really large fish
at that point you start to become obcest and spend more time and money than you should
trying to get a bigger one
you will find at that point you become busy trying to get another

I start fishing for flounders the first week of April. stripers start showing around May 1st. or a week earlier(small ones). bigger bass around May 5-6 and real big ones around the 15th or so.
