Looking up interesting stuff on alternative energy for home and auto.
Wonder if anyone here has experience with LNG/CNG/ethanol cars. Most of what I see out there is for commercial customers (and not average folks).
Here's a cool home solar power link:

Yep it is gonna suck. 135 gal in the boat gets me about 2-3 weeks of fishing if I don't go crazy. But to me it is worth it.
Gas on MV now is 2.63/gal for reg. I just put $65 in my Yukon XL. Some are thinking...THAT'S INSANE but considering there is no place to go and I really don't drive that far and the last time I bought gas on island was October 04. (I went off in Dec and Jan to go skiiing and tanked up prior to my return) This tank full will last me 6-8 weeks easy. During high fishing season I will tank up every two weeks and every week during the derby and I feel some pain, but again it is worth it.
For the boat my fuel is cheaper at the dock then at the street pump. I get a sizeable discount because I hold a comm fishing lic....but I haven't sold a fish since 1982. Thats right....the reason I buy the stupid comm fishing lic to get my fuel cheaper . In one fill up I more then pay for my lic.
IMO We need to drill off Alaska and just the threat of us doing that will collapse the price. We don't have to pump much but just enough to control the Arabs.
BTW we have reserves in Alaska to completely sustain our own needs for over 200 years at over 100% ov todays capacity (and that is just what we know about). Imagine what would happen to the Arab price of oil if we said, ...."I don't think we will need any this year, maybe next year....thanks". IMO we could hold the price at $1.00/gal for then next 500 years if we wanted to. Its time to play hardball with these guys.

Screw the Middle East. Let it all fall apart for all I care, let the region drown in its oil.
If you do a search on alternative energy and cars (or LPG or CNG or Ethanol conversions) ... you'll pick up some interesting stuff.
The U.S. auto manufacturers have been slow to pick up on more fuel-efficient technologies - while there are a few electric vehicles out there they are only being sold in certain states like California. The Japs are further ahead. No surprises there.
We won't be seeing mass-produced hybrid cars until 2007.
Which is a damn shame, given GM's bad news this morning.

Won't bother me much......
Yeah, high gas prices suck, but I am still going to be driving to the Cape 1 or 2 times a week....it will not ruin my fishing that is for damn sure!

I know Spence is gonna disagree, but this is what needs to be done. We need to be self sufficient and stop depending on people we can't trust to begin with.

Not this year sadly, boat is on the market in RI as soon as the windshields come in. I'll be boatless soon hopefully and then I've got some other baggage I have to shed .

Bob, quit complaining about the boat fees. You live in Fairhaven, all you pay is $1/ft. The out of towners will pay $3/ft. Me too, more money for crabs. With new federal regulations, I wonder what pogies will cost. There must be three feet of snow around my boat. Snow has been sliding down the canvas cover and piling up around the boat.

My buddy owns a gas station. He had to order gas today, if the truck was there before midninght he got todays price, if it was'nt it was going to be .04/gal more. He told them if the truck does'nt get here by midnight, he was dumping them as a supplier.. The truck showed at 745pm.
