panhandlin' at the pump
Doing the lunchtime drill, hit the post office, grab some lunch, gas up, as I got to hit the road in about an hour to go pick up my son at college for Easter break.... big healthy looking guy, early 20's driving an older japanese suv, gets out, asks the young mom pumping gas behind me for spare change, or a buck or two.... WTF... she tells him nope... he starts for me, and starts his rap, I kinda cut him off... NOPE... he goes back to his rig... his girlfriend, vampira, black hair pasty white skin, more body piercing and tats than ya can count, she shootes me a po'd look, empties about 900 cig butts in the trash can... looks back at him, and tells him to hit up the old lady at the next pump... the young mom makes eye contact with me, and says "this ain't right".
Nope, I hang up the nozzle, he's talked himself into pumping the old ladies gas, and the girlfriend is jockeying the suv around to the pump, heading out....., I pay up, tell the cashier whats going on, and the young mom is in paying, and telling the other clerk... I tell them to get ready for a gas and go, but I'm gonna stick around a bit, too I tell them.... I get in the truck and pull into a spot heading out, right down the plate #, and go back in and give to cashier, who thanks me, and is a little nervous... the old lady gives the kid a fiver for pumping her gas!!! he puts it in the tank, and elvira flips me off, as they leave.....
This kid was a big strapping dude... like the young mom said to me... you do not know how I had to hold back, I wanted to tell him to get a job!!!
I know it's 2 bucks a gallon, but panhandlin' at the pump!!!!

Karl,
You shoulda messed with him a bit.
Next time, ask him you'd be glad to give him some money.
Just ask him how much he wants for his wife/girlfriend/escort/whatever

Karl you did the right thing by writing the # down. Do not get invloved because you just don't know what that kid was capable of.

Well... there is some justice here... after I typed this and hit the road, I see a cruiser monitoring traffic before I hit the hi-way... I recognize the cop, fishing buddy.... pull over and shoot the breeze, tell him the story... he asks if I still got the plate... I do the pencil rub on my note pad, and give him the number.... cell phone rings about the time I'm in Plymouth... BINGO... they've got a string of Scams/ Gas and Goes, to talk to these 2 about.... Upper-Cape mostly.... well.... by me giving the local cop the heads up... they picked them up at another convenience store/gas station in town.... I hope they nail them good.

Karl, I appreciate what you did. My folks are trying to enjoy retirement there, often mozeying around off the beaten track. Hate to think about them running into deadbeats like those in some less public place.
