Well, I stocked up on HABS needles at the MSBA show so now I have to justify that by learning to fish them. Fish more at night and less during the mid day. Pay attention (become more keen) at reading my surroundings and try to master the art of "thinking like a fish" including moon/tide pahses.

Gonna use up A LOT of the 250 hours of vacation time I have ben banking and a good portion of the 300 hours of "sick" time too!

Get the hang of surfcasting w/a conventional.
Maintain a fishing log.
Learn to rig dead baitfish better.
Not just cast to, but catch a schoolie tuna.
Keep telling the wife "nothing brings us closer together than time apart"
Take the boys fishing more.

I gotta catch me a squeteague this year, come hell or high water.

I wanna catch the world record Tog. God I love those Tog. You know they sleep upside down, right?

I would like to catch a bluefin on light spinning gear this year. Might invade RI myself and hit the mudhole this year to do just that.

I would like to piss less people off, and would like to have a few Tog over for dinner.....

In general, I want my fishing to be more productive. I have to move around more looking for fish instead of being lazy. I want to get back to hiking the beaches at night slinging eels. And I'd like to chase the sbft again this year. Wire ling jigging at Billingsgate gets old quickly.

I really want to fish more than I did last season and hopefully fish smarter too. I want to hone my fluking skills, get a couple more funny fish but most importantly, but MOST importantly, I really hope to get a bluefin into my boat!

Catch my first bluefin tuna.
Fish the Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tourney , but actually get some points this time.
Get on the main leader board at the MV Derby, not necessarily be there at the end, but just get my name up there for a time.
Catch my first 40.
Attend a couple more MSBA meetings than just 1 or 2.
Learn from all the experts on SB.com.

I'm not even going to say "I want to fish from the surf more this year" 'cause its pointless. It won't happen.

Learn a couple more of the boston harbor islands inside and out. Get better at finding bait and bring along some eels for backup.

Fish a little deeper structure and rips to try and get a few bigger fish.

Flyfish some more.

Get my dad a nice bass (20lbs+)

Get along better with my daughter when she comes out (I lost a little patience with her at times last summer).

That should be good. I like to do a variety of things fishing plastic, topwater, flies and bait. Just keep getting better at all of them. Stay versatile.

Good luck everyone... can't wait to get this season rollin'.

Good thread! I have given this a lot of thought over the winter.

I want to perfect my boat fishing skills in methods that I know work but I tend to avoid using. To name a few tube and worm, deep vertical buck-tailing, trolling bunker spoons. Also, going to rig up a couple lead trolling lines this year.

From the shore, I plan to focus my fishing time on spots I really know. I have done so much exporing the last few years I feel I missed out on some prime action. I also plan to do a lot more plug fishing and a little less eeling...try and get back to my plug/eel ratio of 70/30.

Fly rod. I am going to put my foot in the sw fly rod game. (this could be an adventure)

Nantucket flats....I am going to make several sight fishing trips there this season.

Like last season, BI, CH trips already being discussed.

Derby: I will fish it but I plan to take a more relaxed position and not get so worked up. (we'll see ) I tend to do much better when I just fish and not power-fish this event.

Also, Would like to host a sb.com derby gathering at my house for those that make the trip over and fish the derby some week...need to talk to JohnR, already got the OK from the wife. (Thinking afternoon BBQ leading to some evening surf fishing but I am up for suggestions if anyone is interested )

Fluke, will try agian to get someone from my family the state derby board. We fish real hard for big fluke. Developed some ***really*** sweet rigs this year (sorry, can't show you: top secret...after the season is over )

Tog...I AM GOING TO GO TOG FISHING THIS YEAR...(the last few years I didn't even go... )

Lastly, Tuna on light spinning gear...I have got to get out there and do that again this summer!

Can't wait for 50 deg water temps.

JohnR,
Good! Picking the universal date will be the difficult part. When the fall approaches and everyones plans firm up, let me know what works for you.
Guys, keep in mind I don't have a waterfront mansion and I can not provide sleeping accomadations for the homeless
But I have a nice yard with plenty of space and the place is easy to find.

All I can say is "what a gentleman"! I'd love to have a visit and share a few fish stories during the derby. I still owe you a boat trip for that awesome shore casting tour you gve me and my friends last year.
