I just puuled all my old hooks off. I think I'm gonna sand them down to get all the glitter off and start fresh. Can anyone help with what exactly I will need as far as spray paint, primer etc. Also how do I get the nice fade in color like my new plugs have. I'd rather spend the time to do it myself than have to buy new plugs so I'm looking forward to getting started. I also want to try different colors you can't buy. Thanks alot for your help. Also if there are any links you know about that would be helpful. I tried doing a search on this site and couldn't find anything.

Here's what I do

1. Cut off hooks and thru wire.
2. clean plug
3. soak in sealer.
4. apply light coat of epoxy
5. sand lightly
6. bin primer
7. paint.
8. epxoy.
9. rewire and rehook.

Keep it simple

If you're gonna take off the old stuff it's a slow and painful process with sandpaper. Use a chemical stripper (outdoors if you love your family and your lungs/liver) to get to the wood (it's no less toxic than breathing sanding dust for HOURS) and then seal the wood (Val Oil, Boiled linseed oil, whatever you choose...) dry for 10 days MINIMUM to allow the VOC stench to go away as best as possible. Prime and paint as desired. Finally top seal with a good strong epoxy, if you want to add glitter mix it into the epoxy, use diamond dust XXX fine or some other fine glitter or you'll get curling of the flakes and it'll look like schnitzel. I use devcon 2-ton epoxy (the stuff in the twin-tube syringes from any dept store) and have great results.

Change is what happens when the pain of holding on becomes greater than the fear of letting go.
