Funny thing about the wind
When its blowing 75mph into your face off the water it makes it rather unpleasant to fish
But one 10" beast of a schoolie decided to say hi to my shad so hurray!

Does wind help or hurt surf fishing?
Does the wind direction make a difference, as in pushing fish or bait towards the beach?
Wind SUCKS for boat fishing!

Ronnie I've found it can both help and hinder depending on direction and intensity.A southerly wind is good.Wind certainly pushes bait towards shore. In my travels I've found fishing east facing areas during a SE wind to be good and west facing areas during a SW wind also.A really HARD wind regardless of direction just plain makes for difficult conditions, such as now.Generally speaking a strong northerly wind makes for poor fishing.
Obviously none of this is written in stone as I fished a west facing area Friday evening during a fairly stiff N wind an caught several fish.

Ron, sometimes, in the right place, a good hard blow can stack the fish against the shore like cordwood! "If" you know the right place and the right wind!

I have never seen a thread like this? the wind is the most important or one of the most important factors of all? you guys hate the wind? you need to know how to use wind to your advantage! sometimes its only good in the begining of a hard blow, sometimes after, sometimes a hard souwest is great but two days in a row of it will gunk up the surf and make it unfishable in certain spots, some spots in the bay are great on a noreast blow etc..... Wind is your friend....................You guys cant hate the wind! learn how to use it and your score will increase! there is a spot in gallilie that is awsome from the surf DURING a hurricane!!!!!!!!

I prolly should of just crossed to the other side of the bridge. I was using a freshwater pole and storms that I prolly could of casted forever with the wind...
but... i was also dumb and forgot a real coat...
I can deal with the wind... it really is all about where you go... but this morning was... excessive... should of guessed for trouble when there were no other die hards out at the river when I got there

Fished yesterday
My brother, Squid Kid's Dad and I fished yesterday. Almost blown out but I landed a 26" on a sand eel teaser being chased by a white storm shad. Six others fished bit the storm yesterday. Standing where we were salt water, not rain, was blowing sideways by us through the air. Standing chest deep and the wind would still manage to push me to and fro even with the water acting as a stabilizing effect. Had to time cast for the brief lull in between the 40 to 50 m.p.h. gust. All in all it was an awesome day.

There's a spot in So County RI where a NE wind on a midnight high will stack 20 to 30 lb fish 10 feet from the rock I stand on. They only stay for an hour or 2 but if you time it just right......OH BABY!!!!

I almost fell off my rock that night. Who walks up to a surf fisherman at 2 in the morning, in the middle of nowhere and says "Are you Paul"? I am still amazed.

Did he shine his spotlight of a head lamp in your eyes and shine it all over the water behind you? If so I've run into that guy too.

The funny thing about this incident is that this spot is not easy to get to, doesn't get much traffic and is dark as a pocket in the middle of the night. he actually scared the crap out of me because I didn't even hear him come up in back of me. We have been good friends since that night.
