If the LCD monitor dosen't have RCA's or digital in then you're SOL.
Also you need an inverter to run the monitor.

Best Buy sells a box for $99 that lets you turn any PC monitor into a tv. It accepts Cable TV as well as RCA jacks. Sorry I can't remember the name of it but they should be able to help you at Best Buy.
Go to there website and they can tell you what stores carry it in stock

The converter that TDF said and an inverter for power may be your cheapest solution.

Mike - very different systems Computer -v- Conventional TV. Aspect ratios are different and resolution rates are significantly different. What kind of TV do you have there now? And is it currently connected to a DVD?

Not with LCD, it uses a digital signal (atleast all the ones that do both require a digital signal... i played with an inhome dual purpose setup a few weeks ago on a client site) so its feasible in this situation.

Likwid - I beleive the problem is that the pixel shape is different between a TV and PC system. A converter of some sort is needed to change that, especially when analog is used.
I say "I Belieive" as this is really at the edge of my PC/TV knowledge as I have not started an HTPC / PVRPC project yet (did I say yet?)

I think I figured what the problem is
it has a 12v regular tv now and its jumpin with the car engine it works fine for DVD what I really think the problem is the alternator is shot so Im replacing that then ill see how the tv acts Im getting noise and the tv is jumpin with the engine idle I figured if I just go dvd it would be a direct line to the player thus cutting out the jumpin. but I do not want a tv anymore just DVD and for the amount of times it is used I do not want to go expensive.

I forget the particulars but what you need is a noise filter for the alternator, that should cut down on the "jump". You may not need a new alternator. If you have a TV in there now and can find a 15" 12V LCD "TV", I think you would be better off than trying a PC LCD in the car...

John's right on the LCD solution, I'm sure the baby 15"/12" actual TV's are cheaper than monitors are.
Put a 17" LCD monitor in Shindig this morning for the onboard computer.

I found a new rugged 12" 800x600 Police LCD on FleaBay for under $200 for my mobile PC project. The good part? 850 NITS brightness and 12 volt .

Nice!
There's just a small dedicated inverter in the nav station for the PC (not a laptop) onboard. Dosen't have that much draw at all.
