Hello all,

I am new to the board and this is my first post. I was referred here by MacoJoe from the wellcraftv-20 forum.

I am moving to the West Greenwich, RI area the end of this month. Exit 5B off of 95 South.

Is anyone familar with that area. I am looking for a couple bait and tackle shops either in that area or on the way to the closet nice boat ramps.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to good boat ramps down that way? Maybe also fishing places to head towards from those ramps.

I have a 21' Wellcraft V-20. The boat is not in the water yet, but when it is, I would apprecaite if someone came for a ride along in exchange for knowledge of the area and fishing technigues.

This is a link to what the state has published online. You can probably get a paper map at a tackle shop. Quaker Lane is probably the closest SW shop to you on RT 2 in North Kingston..

There is a good ramp with parking on Greenwich Cove, Greenwich Bay.... on the west side near the Sewer plant; launched there several times in the last few weeks; worked well..

I live a few miles east of you.
The Greenwich bay ramp is good (not the goddard park, the one on crompton ave), as RIRH points out. Closer to you w/ parking is the Allen's harbour ramp. I think you will need to pay for a sticker there if you are not an NK res. But I think it is only $20 for the season. Actually the wickford ramps are probably the closest to you The pleasant street ramp has no parking. I can't comment on the wilson park ramp. I know it exists, but I have never used it.... but I might soon. Quaker Lane B&T is on the way to all of those ramps. Or you can put in in Salt Pond which is not too far and offers other options for fishing, especially NOW. Or you can go to great island bridge ramp in galilee and be in BI sound in just a very short run (as long as you can clear the bridge, which i don't think should be a problem?).

Parking is ample at Wilson Park; not sure if there is a cost, only used in the winter off season...

then that is your best option, golver. Head east on 102. When you get to Rt. 2 N (just past home depot) take a left. One mile on the left is Quaker Lane.

Then back down to 102 and head east until you get to Rt. 1. Left on Rt 1. About a mile up you will see a traffic light and wickford appliance. Go straigh through light, pass police/fire/rescue, road is right there on the right. Go straight down and you will eventually get to the ramp.

Pick up a capt. seagulls chart from a local tackle store, that will point in the right direction. But be forewarned asking for spots has never gone over very well on this site. So if you do well, be very general in naming where you got them, or else the next time you go out, your new spot might be full.

that ramp is in a back cove of wickfor harbour. Head out of the harbour and into the bay.

You will immediately see jamestown and the bridge down the bay.

There are so many spots all over the bay. If you are unfamiliar with the area, I would highly suggest a good chart studying session or two before heading out. The spots are pretty obvious once you start studying the chart.

the ramp drops off nice // stay inside the channel markers in the cove ==straight out [east] is open water , don,t cut corners heading south /short water & rocks, rocks , but if your like me I don,t give a chit about them // you must have a GPS ////get the card that will cover the cape to Montuck #####

or anything like that.

I was just looking for some common known spots that people hit all the time. Just something as a start off point.

I am really totally new to all this. Last year I went on a shark fishing charter off of Point Judith and got hooked (crappy pun was intended). 2 weeks after that I sold my project Hunter Sailboat and bought a 21' Wellcraft V-20 project fishing boat. The boat, though not pretty, is almost ready for the water.

So basically I was just looking for the popular places everyone goes to catch a few, until I start to get the hang of this.

around jamestown island

beavertail (southern tip of conanicut (jamestown) island)

brenton reef (southern tip of aquidnick (newport) island)

Just to name a few.

there are so many fishy looking spots I don't think anyone will have a problem with me posting these. If so, flame away.

If you want to fish in the ocean your best bet is to go down Rte 1 to either Salt pond road or rte 108. There is a ramp off to your left after the salt pond road exit. If you go down Rte 108, make a right onto the Galilee escape road. At the end of the road make a right and there is a ramp, just before you get to the bridge. Trailering the boat down is a lot quicker than running her down the bay.

Golver - welcome to S-B and Rho Dyslundh...

If new to fishing these waters, learn the bay first and sticking to the southern portion, weather permitting, is certainly worth it. Get charts, charts, charts. LOTS of rocks inshore and offshore. If you're not in a channel, there are probably rocks

. Good news is that rocks hold fish

Second - V-20, great boat, grew up on one myself. As a great resource, go to http://www.wellcraftv20.com/ , several members here have them and are on that site - great resource...
