Question

Do you really need to wear waders around the canal? I get away with just boots and splash bottoms.

As a kid

I remember ogling all the plugs in their packages as a 6 or 7 year old kid 45 years ago when I first went into Goose Humock. Like weewee says it is probably the best real estate in Orleans. Just far enough off the rotary and it provides parking and is on the water also. I wealk in there about fifteen years ago and spotted the guy who sold me my first surfboard at the G & S shop further up route 6 almost to Orleans center. Jesse Kitkarth (sic) was his name. We rekindled an old frienedship. Of course it was next to the DQ. I don't if thats still there. Across the street was Cranberry Cove fast food/mini-golf/pitch & putt golf area where I worked for a summer. But back to the GOOSE. I remember equating the shop with the Rock Hudson movie where he was an Abacrombie & Fitch sporting goods salesman and that he was a supposed fishing expert. The old Goose was that nice.

DQ is there, but not officially part of the chain anymore, altho ya can still get DQ stuff there
Cranberry Cove minigolf pitch and put,, bulldozed, now a papa gino super stop and shop built on top of (what used to be) the big Cranberry Bog (try filling in one of them nowadays...).. there is a mini golf around the corner near Wendys and Freindlys.
Surf shop of some kind still selling boards in between the Goose and the old DQ
Jesse... some ruff times for him... last I heard he's living in FLA.
Heck of a nice guy, like a lot of the old locals, had to split... I'm on the list too, we all are, if ya ain't a gizzilionaire, but gonna hang on as long as I can.
Lot more than meets the eye to this sale... a lot of "variables" and there have been some aggresive approaches to other local business's to aquire the property... but like one wealthy local merchant, who was approached said.... 3.9 million.. averages out to about a buck per headache...
Get a tin boat, dead low tide, pull around back of the retaining wall... one look tells a million stories... that plus the drain pipe from the old bog goes right through the middle of the Goose property, is now handling the parking lot runoff, plus lord knows what else, from the stop and shop, and papa gino plaza.... headaches
Swimmer, I know the movie of which you speak.... I dunno....

The real estate value is the problem. There is not a lot of money in selling fishing tackle for a few months a year...face it, you guys are always looking for a cheap way out. If I had 3.9 mil I would not buy a tackle store.

He is looking for a developer to buy it for the REvalue and put up condos.

Dunno about that... according to the article in last Fridays Cape Codder, he turned down 2 full cash offers, because they were not going to continue the tradtion of the Goose Hummock Shop, he wants to see a Marina/tackle/kayak shop go on there.....

Thumbs down

Stopped in Goose Hummock this weekend and as you would expect this time of year they are well stocked. What seemed to be lacking was knowledgeable help. I needed line and the guy overspooled it and had to back off 20 yards and then tried to overcharge me for the 20 yards he had to take off. Sorry I bothered.

If you go be prepared to PAY dearly for your lures. I was thinking of picking up a Yo Zuri Mag Darter for a friend and there were only 3 lures of 5" models (and those weren't even the best colors) hanging amongst the many yo-zuris and I took a look at the price tag and could not believe my eyes. It was priced $15.99!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then I looked closely and noticed these were last years lures and had been ticketed over and you could clearly see last years price was $9.99. At that point I took the one lure I was considering buying and put it back on the wall and left.

Are there any tackle shops on the outer cape that are not run by people who are retail hobbyists with money to lose? Cause you'll need to be ok with losing a lot of money if you were not in there by June 1 - fishing season is almost 1/3 over. Sounds like they have raised the prices with the hope of making the margin more attractive to the next buyer.
