Use your car/truck as a basecamp. take ONLY what you need when you leave yoru buggy. A couple plugs, and soft plastics is usually all i bring in my plug bag for weaponry. i also carry a spool of leader material, swivils, snaps, plyers, and a small knife. Thats it. back in my buggy, i have an extra reel, a slew of plugs, maybe an extra rod.

Right now my plugging rod is a GSB 1201-L with a 360 slammer.... the total weight is about 3 pounds

The lighter you fish, the longer you can fish.

Moving water

Alone/at night, I suggest a PFD. Especially if your going to stand in nay moving water. Remember at night you can't see what your stepping on, or very little of it. And what was said about the first aid absolutely, one with the anti septic chit in case the same hook you put in your hand was just impaled in a bluefish. Cell phone........in caes no one else mentioned that. And good luck.

Stick a spare neck light behind the plug inserts in your bag, or bring spare batteries and a spare bulb.

Take an extra shirt and pair of pants and keep them in the vehicle, so you don't have to drive home in your skivvies or bare-assed if you take an unexpected swim.

stick to one or two style of fishing. pack two setups or one if you are planning to chunk and use lures. also, good luck!

Had to call it a day last year after bout a half hour . My girlfriend thougt she was being helpful when she cleaned my truck before we left. Good intentions, really crappy idea in november.

Extra lighter if you smoke.

Everything is better on the rocks.

I agree with the truck base camp idea. I do not like using another persons vehicle because I always forget somthing because of the different type of fishing scenarios.

This may sound like a doomsday prediction but.....I know you said you had a knife but try to keep it on your belt so if you do take a dive and your waders fill up (past your wading belt) you can cut them off.

PFDs are only 100$! We spend more money on lures and reels and they will not save your life. Spend the cash on a PFD, your significant other will feel much better!

And even if you don't, a lighter can come in handy (along with a stick of hot melt glue) if your tip comes loose.
