Take the drag knob off, pull the spool and flush sand out with fresh water. If you get stuck on the beach do it in the surf and redo in fresh when you get home....................Don't drop the knob

If it's not totally locked up, just turn the handle and grind out all of the sand

You won't hurt the cup or the spool by doing that. Most of my 704s have no paint left on the base of the spool

You could drill a couple holes in the rotor cup to help the cup drain. If you get sand in it, just dunk it and reel.
