polish dont wash

We have some plexy windows on machine shop equipment and it cannot be cleaned without scratching. We use aluminum oxide (polishing compound) to clean and polish it. AL-OX is used as a metal polish also.

Years ago I did this on my old MFG with a plexy windshield, worked great. Easy for me cause I have access to metal polishing compounds here at work.

The product you want to use is called Novus. It is a polish that also "clears
up" scratches on acrylic (Plexiglass) and polycarbonate (Lexan). Do NOT use
anything like Windex, 409, alcohol etc. My company sells it (don't want to
mention the name, not sure about the rules here). You can PM for if you
want more details or call any plastic distributor. Also you should not use
paper towels to clean acrylic or lexan, they cause scratches. Use a 100%
cotton product. Let me know if you need any more advise. I am in the plastics business.

Thumbs up hey pirate (question)

whats the difference between plexiglass and lexan in applications or properties...light diffusion...one
and two is castolite still around?....pours like liquid glass and hardens like a rock? or whats its equivalent that good be used for making plug bodies...?

not to hijack this thread but broaden it a bit from just cleaning products...

Biggest difference between acrylic and polycarb is that acrylic will break or
shatter if stuck with any real force while polycarb is nearly indestructable....both clear
acrylic and polycarb have nearly 100% light transmission but acrylic would appear to be "clearer" and "cleans up" much nicer and is easier to work with...
that being said I would still prefer polycarbonate for a boat windshield....with proper care it should last much longer...acrylic has roughley 17-18 times the impact strength as glass and polycarb has about 20 times the impact strength of acrylic....if drilling holes in either material for screws or bolts always drill the hole slightly oversized to allow for material expansion and contraction with tempature fluctuations....and yes, there are pourable acrylic
products still on the market for making castings...pm me if you want to know more about them (my company sells them but I am not sure about rules regarding posting other websites)....please excuse the spelling errors
