Some of what was said here is true from both perspectives, When I started I was as bad as anyone else at snookering people. After a talk with my brother in law on the subject he said some things that made sense, I think when we post pictures, brag about our catch etc.. It has the reverse reaction we want, people end up hating you! So for the past couple of weeks I have not posted much about what I am catching, Its better sometimes to just stay quiet because along with the praise for catching fish eventually, people are going to want to know the where and when and how, its only natural, and then like john said, we can't complain when people dig as deep as they can to find out. I am not saying never post this stuff, we are all proud sometimes of our catch and its great to share it but, doing it constantly only enflames the masses.
For every post on here that shows a good fish or a great night, there are countless others you never hear about doing the same thing, quietly!
If you read this weeks fisherman you saw Steves report where he said it was getting out of control at a local spot well, whos fault is that? I told him you can't put these reports in the fisherman along with spots and not expect people to find out! He is a classic example of being a victim of his own success and I think now that its to little to late, damage is done. But what little we have left, I think will be keeped quiet from now on. So, what did he gain by telling the world? He lost his spot. is that the price you pay for a pat on the back?? Think about that. I used to do exacly the same thing and began doing it this year but put the brakes on fast! I dont care anymore wheather or not anyone here or anywhere else knows that I am catching fish or not.
I was fairly friendly with Tim Coleman and fished with him on more than one occasion, now, he hardly speaks to me? the reason is that When I caught my 50 I opened my big mouth and he still holds it against me that the spot has become so heavily fished, I regret it all the time.
Now as for what happend last night, I have been in that situation and, can honestly say lately that while I wont offer to take someone with me I have, this year, run into new people at spots I have fished for many years, I tell them I am surprised there are so many new faces and grumble at them some, I go on about to many cars etc... But then on the other hand after the rant I open up and tell them when and how, Its even worse if they see me hook up? They know anyway. I think for the most part I am a friendly guy when I bump into people at night but, I am also guarded I mean I dont know this guy from atom? So I talk for awhile and feel things out if I like the person I talk, If they are cocky know it alls or punk kids I shut up or walk away.
As far as telling them "everything" Nope I dont do that but I will give a starting point, I am under no obligation whatsoever to spill my guts to strangers about what I have learned over the years, If you give them a little and a starting point they should be able to figure some things out on there own, Casting to a new rock pile and hooking a bass is a great feeling of acomplishment and all the more sweet when you did it on your own.
I know how eban comes accross here but I have met him and I think he is a good guy, I will also take the liberty of saying that this post is most likely a little exagerated, From the talks I have had with eban he is always willing to share his info so maybe, just maybe, the post was half true and a sprinkle of humor added in, or maybe the guys out there were victims of there own stupidity, I would never leave a spot if someone told me to? second, its there own fault!!! for away.
So maybe we should all be carefull that this board does not become the "BRAGGING BOARD" Cause it looks like its heading that way to me...........

Nicely said Bill, it's just too bad it has to be that way...
It is nice to be able to post pix, I like to see other guys pix of large. It doesn't make me jelous or pissed, it makes me drive harder to get large myself.
It's just too bad there is so much hate and jelousy in the world. We should be happy for others fortune...

Thats the nature of the beast Dave, Sad but true, success in every form of life makes someone somewhere jealous, in fishing its the worst. I have had my nights so thankfully it does not get to me if I have a bad night and trust me everyone has bad nights, everyone. So if I meet someone on the beach who is friendly and pleasent I will tell them most anything I am just not going to hold someones hand.
I am struggling lately because I no longer have my partner Joe to fish with, We kept each other going and now I have to push myself to fish for more than two hours its tough, so Know i realize how goos it is to have a partner, Lately when I am fishing I find that I am talking to myself....My point is that now when I run into someone I am kind of happy to stand there and shoot the Sh$$T for a while I like the company.
When I first bumped into eban he told me he did not want to crowd me and would move down to the next point ( which I respect by the way) My reaction was no, come over here plenty of room I enjopyed the company, is my point.
I sometimes wonder if there will ever be another Joe, I miss that .

I think #^^^^^^& has summed it up pretty well here and done so in a very diplomatic way. I have learned my lesson and I know Fishaholic18 has too. We had a few good nights this week, we caught more big fish than I have ever taken from the surf in one night. We posted a few of the many pics we took, and poor Dave has been feeling the heat ever since. So as for giving someone a starting point, why don't you start where we did when we found the spot we are fishing.... spend some time scouting, without the rod, find your holes and those little places where the currents makes up a little more than any other place on the beach. We worked hard and put our time in to find these spots, and it has paid off. I won't be posting pics anymore, I'm just as happy to look at everyone else's . I love to fish, I love to fish with new people, I love to help people out, but it really goes up my @$$ sideways when people relentlessly badger you for having a good night.
Mike and Paul - This was not directed at you guys in any way just so you don't get the wrong idea .
Hopefully we'll be hearing that drag sing again tonight

I agree....I love to look at pics as well...and I will admit getting jealous of seeing people catching nice fish when I am not.....however..it's that same feeling that makes me want one even more, makes me try harder, fish harder and longer.....I fish alone 99% of the time...not because I want to, but because it's hard for me to find guys to fish with sometimes...but that wont stop me from going out there everytime I can to get me my own cow...it will happen...and it will feel that much better when it does...
It's too bad that a few guys will ruin it for everyone else.....I love to look at large!!

I saw a post on another site that asked if there was any action in the North river or is it over for the season. Pretty funny!
