Report: Islamic Group Claims London Blasts

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - A group calling itself "The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe" posted a claim of responsibility for Thursday's blasts in London, saying they were in retaliation for Britain's involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The authenticity of the message could not be immediately confirmed.

The statement, which also threatened attacks in Italy and Denmark, was published on a Web site popular with Islamic militants, according to Elaph, a secular Arabic-language news Web site, and Der Spiegel magazine in Berlin, which published the text on their Web sites.

"Rejoice, Islamic nation. Rejoice, Arab world. The time has come for vengeance against the Zionist crusader government of Britain in response to the massacres Britain committed in Iraq and Afghanistan," said the statement, translated by The Associated Press in Cairo. The AP was unable to access the Web site where it was posted, which was closed quickly after the reports.

The group al-Qaida in Europe claimed responsibility for the last major terror attack in Europe: a string of bombs that hit commuter trains in Madrid, Spain in March 2004, killing 191 people. Two days after that attack, a video was found in a trash can outside a Madrid mosque with a statement purported to be from the group's spokesman, called by the nickname "Abu Dujan al Afghani."

In the new statement, the group said "the heroic mujahedeen carried out a blessed attack in London, and now Britain is burning with fear and terror, from north to south, east to west."

"We warned the British government and the British people repeatedly. We have carried out our promise and carried out a military attack in Britain after great efforts by the heroic mujahedeen over a long period to ensure its success."

"We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all crusader governments that they will receive the same punishment if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan," the statement went on.

It was signed "The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe."

Okay, here's Homerun04's plan:

No nukes....use total conventional weapons...go in to THE ENTIRE MIDDLE EAST (Isreal, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, etc) and take over the ENTIRE region...make each country a new state within the United States....make each citizen a citizen of the United States....give them all the rights as a US citizen...collect taxes from them.....and make them ALL adhere to our laws and rules.....if they rape, they go to jail ; if they steal; they go to jail......just like any other US citizen. They would have to be tolerant of religious differences (like we are), and learn to live under a system based on the seperation of church and state.

Then we reform our legal system in the US (which would now include all these new states) to no longer be a joke (take all the liberalism out of it). No more OJ's or Michael Jackson verdicts. Make it tougher and serious for a change.

We (USA) would get all the oil, and stop all the hatred and wars once and for all....and since the Soviet Union is no more, no country would stop us nor could stop us. In fact - behind closed doors - I'd bet most leaders of all countries would LOVE it if the USA did this. The only concern would be China....and seriously folks, who much should we care what China thinks about world affiars. Here is a country that so much wanted to be isolated from the rest of what was happening in the world that they tried to build a wall around their entire country. They wont care much.

You honestly beleive that China will isolate itself? China is actively going into countries we neglect in our own backyard and being very generous with those countries politically and economically. Building relationships that will benefit them and detract from us. This is a long range plan that they have. China more or less runs the Panama Canal (though I hope we would take that back if push comes to shove). China is building extensive port facilities in the Western Hemisphere. Building relationships with many latin american companies.

China has been actively trying to put a wedge between us and our allies in the Pacific. China is actively trying to expand their influence and defensive depth across their side of the Pacific.

China is building quickly militarily in quality while we draw down some of our capabilites. Russia is selling some of their best stuff to China and then China builds more under license. Russia can easily ally itself as much with China and leverage that against us. Especially as overstretched as our forces are. And yesterday there are reports that we might abandon our "two theater" military??

Just because Russia and China cannot invade the US does not mean that individually or together that they can't put a hurtin' on us in some circles, or that they would tremble in fear of us. There is a lot of sheeet happening in the background that is not to our advantage, especially when concerning China and Russia....

I agree JohnR.....and for many years I have felt that ultimatley - after all shakes out - that the US and China would eventually split ownership -- if you will, meaning economic and socio-political ownership -- of the world.

It is because we both see the world in 180 degree opposite terms. Economically opposite, socio-politically opposite, and culturally opposite. People (read countries) of the world will eventually gravitate to one or the other extreme. So the theory goes anyway.....

China concerns me only in that they understand what we are saying here in this thread, and are right now actively "recruiting" countries to fall in line with their way of thinking....as you have pointed out in your post.

My plan allows the US to make sure we have the Middle East portion of the globe once the "great split" occurs. I think that Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill had similar ideas during Yalta.....in fact, that was the start of ALL these Middle East problems -- when the Islamists were told they were going to get back Palestine (their Holy Land now called Israel) after the war if they helped the US/British defeat the Germans.....then the British re-neged on this deal, and all hell broke loose...remember Lawrence of Arabia....??
