I did horseshoe crab research at Nauset Beach last year, and the other researcher had a Jeep Liberty. That thing tore thru the sand, and we pulled quite a few stranded people out of their ruts. Good thing she had her Jeep, because my Escort is NOT a beach vehicle. The Liberty was also great for towing the 16' aluminum boat we had. I've heard that Jeeps are field tested for hardiness, and I know the Liberty had a protective covering underneath, so no worries if you scrape over anything jutting out of the road/path. One problem I can forsee with the Liberty is storage space, possibly. The back is a bit small. But a roof rack for your rods could solve that in a jif. The only other thing is that I kinda view the Liberty as a chick vehicle. It's got that look, ya know? I don't know if other people feel this way, though. Whatever you choose, I'd definitely invest in some heavy duty floor mats with big grooves, especially if you're tromping thru sand -- they pick up tons of crud and really save your car. One last thing -- buy American (Jeep is quasi-American, at least). They're cheaper and easier to fix, and besides, the US car companies need our help. Good luck!

If you have interest in a new Jeep give it a week or 2. Chrysler is set to announce employee pricing on new cars along with Ford to compete with GM's program currently running.

I don't think you'll be able to addess both needs with one car. Ladies don't find fishing vehicles very attractive.
Summer dating car - Porsche Boxter.
Winter dating car - BMW 7 series or X5.
Fishin wagon - 4x4 pickup truck with a 6 foot bed (long enough for you to sleep in). You'll also need a bed liner and I think a nice no-frills cap with built in utility rack would be nice too. Jap models sip gas better than American gas guzzlers. But, there are a lot of good incentives being offered by Ford, GM, and Dodge (employee discounts and 0% financing).
As JohnR said, Ford trucks (F-150) have better aesthetics, but Chebby has better mileage (Silverado 1500). I could be wrong but Chebby has a better ride than Ford. Couldn't tell you about jap makes, but there are plenty of guys on this board who can help you out.

Really? Okay, I gotta be fianacally stable like u, Ben, so I can own two cars. Besides, dad wouldn't let me have a truck, but in the future, I might move out and live on my own.
I saw a silverado and it looks good.

C'mon anyone can buy a car off the lot - you need something special.
Let's see.
Beach buggy, babe magnet, gas mileage?
O.K. let's throw out the gas mileage part for now.
Get yourself one of these, slap it on a lifted Chevy 4 X 4 chassis and you got the coolest buggy on the beach. And the babes will flock to it like seagulls to frenchfries, at least those pierced gothic-type babes will, and who's more fun than them
