I like boat fishing and shore fishing and trolling and pluging and eeling and chunking and rubber and jigs and live pogies and squid and worms and 9er rigs and clams and just about anyway to catch a striper and have caught them each way many times up to 48#. I feel sorry for those that are close minded and think THEY have the only true way to catch fish as they are the ones missing out on learning how to be an all around fisherman that can enjoy this sport many ways. I have out fished GS on days with 9er rigs and I have out fished guys with 9ers by using GS rubber. Then there are the boat fish don't count guys you are ALL invited to come out with me and I will let you run the boat and show me how easy it is to find and catch BIG fish as we all know its just drop the line over the side and reel them up . And after that maybe we can all go over to the private spots from shore only a few can fish in Newport and see if we can get BIG fish from shore also. There are almost as many ways to catch fish as there are fishermen and to not open your mind to that fact that you can learn them all and have fun doing so now that is to me a shame.

I am not closed minded GB if it is I you are thinking of....as I said I have tried all of those methods and just don't care for them. My comments if taken as pot shots were just light hearted joking. I fully respect the way others choose to fish and I wish them luck and lots of large. I tried the wire line jigging thing once and it was not fun. As far as the "boat fish don't count" thing....if it comes from me it is once again just in jest! If I caught a 50 from a boat I would be thrilled....I will take a fish like that any way I can get it.....cept' on wire.

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

Larry,
You must be joking if you think you are NOT closed minded!!!
You started out this tread by calling wire line jiggin "sissy fishing" and "
you would rather catch a skunk"
Then you change you're tune a little saying "to each his own"
Now you do a 180 turn around and say you respect the way others fish!!!
You tried this type of fishing 1 time !!! did you catch anything?

Give me a break!!!
You have to be one of the most closed/ narrow minded people I know!!!
Just look at some of you're old post for proof!!!

And to top it off, you insult a friend that I fish with by calling him overweight!
Who are you to call someone else overweight!!!

Ron....you don't know when someone is funnin' ya......look at my original post and the smilies....I was joking....if you can't take the heat move to Alaska. You take everything too seriously Ron and I was not poking fun at Mike......I know I am a cheeseburger shy of 300 pounds....I got no beef with Mike and if I did I would split it with him....Mike is good folk so lighten up and try and laugh more.

No never caught a fish wire line jigging.....I don't care for it.....what is wrong with me not caring for it Ron???

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

That may sound strange to you but I am talking about me.....wire line jigging is no fun for me....so more wire for you guys....and 50 pounders.

wire line, i use to use this to catch fish to sell, to me I associate it with work, use to jig in 70 to 95 maybe 100 feet of water with great results I would wear a leather glove and jig by hand. I would throttle till the fish came up and planed the fish untill i got it to the boat.
many a tim i thought of getting an electric reel......

homerun, you go buy a penn 113hsp and a 5'6" jigging rod made for wire. You spool 1/3 dacron,300' of wire, and 30' of flouro leader. go into the current at 2 - 2.5 knots, attatch a 3oz bucktail, let out all wire and 50' of dacron, stuff rod in holder, grab dacron , and jerk!!!!!!!!!!( IN ABOUT 30' - 40' OF WATER ) Fish on , reel in , bleed , ice , fillet , cook , eat. repeat. bon apetite!!!!!!

Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot.

I'm suggesting there are other methods and wire line isn't for everyone. Here's a perfect example, the day on the Cabo, there was a 75 year old dad along. He wasn't physically capable of jigging wire, but I put my spare rod in his hands while drifting and showed him what to do and 20 minutes later I watched 40 years melt off that man as he fought and landed a sweet 24 lb fish. I'm always looking for new ways to skin a cat, that's all I was trying to impart and yes wire is too much friggen work for my taste.

Ron just keeps knocking it.....I said exactly what GotStripers said Ron....yet you keep taking shots......I think I will stay on the sand and you stay on the ocean and we will do fine Ron. I think folks here know the score Ron and I think they know when I am joking...look at your last post! You continue to extoll the virtues of wire line jigging, talking about how these guys you know do nothing but jig and catching lots of fish and that is fabulous....but you continue to knock others on their methods and take shots at me. Your funny Ron and quite pathetic.

Not to mention you read into everything what you want....my thread was about how I think the fishing has been very slow....most concurred Ron......do you know what concurred means? <smilie

You argue/discuss the same way a taunted 8 year old would.....with no intellect, maturity or respect.

Almost time to get our fish on!!!
