Thank you "Captain"

This morning we were jigging wire out in front of Race Point. A few minutes into my first pass of the day we are tight to a small fish. Another boat sees this and is motors right up behind us. He begins to lay out his wire and passes us about 25 feet to my port side. In the process he caught my wire. I loose the fish - no biggy. But here's the kicker. But this "captain" reels up my jig and wire, asks me if it's mine(i'm now off his stern), I answer yes and this "captain" turns away and motors off with my jig and pork. I'm like WTF?

Some people are absolutely amazing.

Imagine running into guys like that when your trolling the ledge there in a kayak. I've been pulled @ plenty of times. I'm keeping my line, I have two rods behind me, you can tell I'm trolling from a mile away. I think people get a bit crazy this time of year.

This type of thing goes on all day down there!!!
Last week, I jigged up wire and jigs a bunch of times!
I even took the time a few times to wind it out of the water onto spools!!!
Thursday we had 3 jerks on 1 boat who got in our way all day wednesday, (I'm pretty sure they were all locals who date one another!!!
They stopped right in front of us and threw over their eel rigs!
I said f*^# them and just kept jigging towards them!
I got a fish on when my lines were right next to them,
The fish and my jig wrapped 2 of their lines, and I just kept the button down on the electramate and watched their lines snap!!!
Got my fish to the boat with 2 of their eel rigs hooked (with fresh eels on them ) and about a 2 1/2 lb lobster!!!

Same thing happened to my brother and his friend on Billingsgate today. They were trolling had a fish and this charter capt comes up from behind and slices the lines right off. They said that he passed not 20 ft. away from them.

There is always one bone head in every crowd! When I run into these situations I usualy move off to a quieter area, fishing should be fun , not an agravation. Twice I have caught the largest fish of the season in one of the areas. Now most of the time we land a fish there are no boats around. Its a big ocean , you just have to look around and do a little searching, get away from the crowd.,

have fun,

Peter

Peter -

You and I could never go fishing together. We'd stop by the first bar we pass and close the damn place down! Like the old days!

Maybe I should of said or done something but I was in shock and with my 15 year old nephew. You know, trying to teach him respect, to do the right thing, yada yada yada... Plus it's only a $4 jig. Woopie.

2 funny Matt,
you did do the right thing!

A also did the correct thing a few weeks back in p-town.
I was standing on main street with my daughter when a he/she started barking up and down to me about smoking. In the good old days I would have hit her/him what ever it was , but not this time All I said was "I am so sorry that I bothered you" lol

Some things will never change! About 40 yrs. ago I was fishing with my dad at Horseshoe Shoals for blues. 100 yds. of wire and jig-it-eel or hoochie was the hot set up. One of better known "tin boat" guys (who shall remain nameless) had on a big blue that was breaking water about 50 yds. behind his boat. Along comes a big sportfisherman and it proceeds to cross his stearn about 20 yds. behind said tin boat. Despite a lot of waving and yelling "the captain" cuts him off without even trying to change course. The loss of 50 yds. of wire, a hoochie and a 12 lb. blue (worth at least 20 cents a pound, gutted) sent the guy over the edge. (He was a little close to the edge to begin with!) He proceeds to crank up the 40 rude on the old 14 ft.starcraft and pulls 20 feet off the stearn of the sportfisherman; grabs all 4 lines with his gaff, hacks them off with his knife, handlines the lures in and throws them in his boat. Not a word from the big boat!!
