fuel prices
I'm trying to not let it effect my fishing...but Sunday a dragged my boat 2 hours to get to a launching spot where I knew there were fish. Then I drove the boat for 8 hours. Then 2 hours back in the truck. Probably burned between truck and boat about 30 and 35 gallons.
So yeah...I'm starting to think about it.

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

The necessities of life come before play.
I consider fishing a necessity.

I spent $50 at the pump for the first time the other day. It even affected me in the spring when I usually do some fishing at the cape and it wasn't even this high yet.
When you think about spending that much to go fishing, its not that I won't fish, but I would fish closer to home.
Now truthfully, I'm pretty much fishing local out of the boat. The honda is good on gas so its not a big expense. But I had been thinking of checking out the cape some more this year, even trailering down to monomoy. No chance. I'll stick it out in Boston Harbor.

I have become more conscious of things like running to lowes , etc. instead of multiple trips at the drop of a hat , i try to plan just one trip where I get everything at once. i also notice this for going to tackle shops for rod building supplies. I just put it off till i'm going there anyway for fishing.
as far as actual fishing , the trips have been so few and far between this year that when I get a chance to go , gas doesn't even figure into it.

I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't gamble. I don't chase women except the one I've been married to for 37 years. So I spend a few bucks more on gas. I get 20 miles to the gallon. it's a 110 mile round trip to Narrangansett.
So let's see: 5.5 gallons per trip X $2.00 per gallon last year = $11.00 per trip
5.5 gallons per trip X $2.50 per gallon this year = $13.75 per trip
So it cost me $2.75 more per trip this year than last. I fish about 5 nights a week X $2.75 more per week = $13.75. I am sure that a sixpack must cost about that. Since I don't drink so that's my beer money.

woah. i have been on here [s-b.com] quite a bit over the past year, and from reading your posts, I would have bet $100 that you were from 'gansett by the amount you fish there. or no farther than warwick. wow. impressive.

I've been going to the outer cape just about every weekend since May (except last weekend). To RP and back costs me about 45 bux. That and the 80 I was spending when I was working in Kingston got really expensive. Working 1- 1/2 miles from home now has been a blessing. The trips to the outer cape will be easier.

I still lug 34 Gal at a time from the self serve at 2.36 instead of the Marinas at $3+.......Lately the boat is costing me about $100 a day for a trip far away. :ast year it cost me $57 to fill my 5 gas jugs. Now it is $81. That is a pretty good jump.

My old sand sled would be s#^^^^^&g fumes after the Clinton-Truro run. Another tank for the beach, another for the ride home, another for the commute that week! It was a great truck( still is) but the Jimmy is a Godsend. When I started pumping gas at Duarte's in P-town back in the 1900's Regular was 39.9 and Premium was 43.9 a gallon! I can't believe it's 3 bucks a gallon more now!

Holy Chit
Yup - Gas is getting up there. Put in 25 gallons yesterday to go out towards Isles of Shoals off N.H. $70.00 please - Hello ????
Didn't get any strippers but 2KR was fun for kids with 20-25 Dog Fish taken and about 10 Skates.
The Dogfish I didn't mind tearing up getting them off the hook but are the Skates good eating ? I heard someplace you can bbq them for pretty good taste.
