Canalman, you seem to be confirming what I've noticed...when stripers jump, it's almost always (only) in shallow water.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.
Well... the fish I just wrote about was in about 12-15' of water but shallows were nearby. I suppose 12-15' is still "shallow" when you consider the depths that stripers can be caught in. So I would give your theory a cautious affirmative

Had one about 20# come full out of the water after a pencil popper.
There were lots and lots of big fish around though...maybe the competition caused it.
