was it a fresh one? The last time you and I fished I had one that I noticed was losing its, tension, for lack of a better word... the plugs went on and came off too easy... so I changed it out, nice and tight again.. maybe?  |

I would bet the natural action of a pencil whips the line around to a position where the clip could be backwards on the hit an slippin the plug off the clip on impact.that sucks I use a big rosco cross lock.I like the breakaways but on some lures they are a pain in the but so I find myself not usin em so much.

Slip have you tried a micro swivel to connect the clip to your line or are you tying direct? Could be that the tortion the fish is putting on the plug and then the clip is actually unbuttoning it.. Just asking, it may help
