Plum, think of it as casting the line not the lure. You want to basicly work the line back and forth in the air a few casts and when you have a decent amount of line out kind of shoot it out and let it hit the water. I'm sure you'll get it. The big thing is to le tthe rod do the work. If you practice in a field you can learn to cast without the water messing up your concentration.

Try casting a small piece of yarn and leave the flies at home a while.

Good luck, fly fishing the surf is a little more than I am ready to take on right now, but a few sunnies are right up my alley.
