This was not intended to be a cop bashing thread....just curious about the parameters involved in the use of sirens and what dictates using them or not using them! I would think if they are rushing somewhere it would be a matter of public safety that they have them on?  |

Didn't see this thread....
As was already posted it's a judgement call. They are used to clear traffic and warn vehicles and pedestrians of your approach. Hence, a crime in progress makes them dangerous. Generally in that situation you'll use it mommentarliy to clear the way.
Otherwise, I let it wail away. There is a huge amount of liability involved in responding to scenes. I always try to remember, How will this look in Federal Court if I kill someone? Better to have every light on and siren on high, I don't want that nightmare!
Having said that, I have to admit, we are some of the worst drivers........!

EMT's are just as bad.they like to play wit the siren.Why not just leave it on.Turninig it off till u get 4 car lenghts from some traffic,can cause a accident.
