Snake, you like the 120 M for eels?? I hate mine for slinging snakes. I keep ripping them of the hook. I guess I need to find me some bigger eels to load that rod up. The rod is built as a spinning rod though, not too sure how much of a difference a conventional would make though.

tpoliti i love my 1201-m for throwing snakes. i like eels about 14 inches long that blank can handle big eels.i hook them threw the bottom of the jaw and out 1 of the eye sockets i dont cast off many.iam no expert just my 2 cents

Snake, I hook em the same way. I used the rod one with eels and ended up with set of lips on the hook, LOL. I have since switched to my 132 L and have had much more success with it. I have a 120 L and am gonna build that and see how it goes.

i bet you were using octopus hooks.. use live bait hooks with a thicker shank and you wont tear the eels mouths as much.

Nebe, you are correct. I do use octopus hooks. Have to try live bait hooks. I have also read somewhere that one of the Surf Guides on LI uses tuna hooks because the have a larger barb. I've been comtemplating that as well.
