This same thing happened to me while landing a fish. The spine broke off under the skin right above my ankle. I went to the doctors the next day because i thought i could feel something in there. He said there was nothing and I would be fine. After 4 months of intense pain I went to the hospital and had one of those scans a pregnant women gets on there stomach. On the screen I could see a 2 inch spine about an 1" deep in my ankle. The doctors said they could probably just put novacaine in it and try and cut it open without anestia. They tried that and I watched them dig around my ankle and they couldnt find it. They figured it must me deeper so they put me under and finally got it out after about an hour. So alll in all I would say get it out right away so you don't have to get it anestia and be sick for a week.

thanks

Thanks everyone. I'll let you know what happens. I'd also welcome any other opinions. I'll see if I can find this Dr. Lickman (thanks Slingah).

I got spined by a bass earlier this year, right thru my wader boot into my big toe. Anyway hurt like hell for a few days, then i noticed that under my left armpit it swelled up like a softball. Went to doc and he checked me out and lo and behold, spine was in my toe still . Lymph gland swelled up to fight off infection. Was on anti-biotics for almost 6 weeks. Go to doctor bro, please.

as my title suggests, i am a doc and in my 'professional' opinion i would go and get that thing taken care of before your next post about how to fish with an artificial leg....
