High heat paint, totally. Do not do anything else. A woodstove can easily hit 1200F Eben would know the best as he deals with heat all the time

been heating with wood, or living in a house heated with wood, almost my whole life.
wire wheel, or wire brush real good, High Heat Stove Paint, you can even get it in almost any color, thru a wood stove shop, then low fire on first burn, well ventilated, 'cause like has been said, it's gonna stink the first fire, might even have that burnt paint smell, but not as bad, on the next couple of burns.

As posted above it stinks . Try to do the first burn or two outside before installation if possible. Thanks for reminding me I got to clean out my wood stove and pellet stove soon. Paul

Stove Black

Larry,
I put stove black on my stove after steel wooling it. If its an older stove you may not get all the rust off, but the stove black will keep it black for the season. I have my four plus cords outside ready to go. If you need any help let me know.
