here's another thing you can try. i use it when casting heavy stuff with braid or mono. it work's very well and since it's taped to your rod you'll never forget it.

when you have to cast real heavy things though you should be using a convench.

Joey...

I have the worst luck with that thing. I had one on a while back and got rid of it. Never worked for me but, then again, I'm stupid

Flexible fabric bandaid put on so that the gauze is over the finger nail with a plastic finger cot over it is the best combination I've found. When I throw light stuff I don't use anything.

it takes a little getting used to, especially to get the timing right, but it has only failed me once.

the one time it did was my own fault i guess. i read (surprise surprise) on an internet forum that if you wrapped the line around the capstan 3 times then you dont have to crank down the drag. well i tried it right away assuming it would work and i sent $15 worth of terminal tackle to portugal after my 50# PP blew up.

so now, i just use it as the instructions say....no probs. but i have had a bunch of my friends try to use it, and they sent my rigs either 100 yds straight up in the air, or 10 yds out and 2 yds into the ground. just takes practice as the margin of error is small. but i have sent 5 oz. a measured 127 yds on a casting field and that's with a 9 ft rod.

with a hunk of bait i can still get close to that.

i've used all forms of tape before, and either:
1. i always forget to bring the tape
2. line get's stuck in the skin area w/o the tape
3. after fishing for awhile, the tape gets nasty

i've also bought a few of these things....and to this day, i have no clue where they are....i think i've used them twice.

those are the finger guards I used to use. I loved them but when wet, they would fly off my finger. That's when I went to this glove thingy

Too much time spent on too many gimmiks-- go to the drugstore and buy the old fashioned cloth adhesive tape. ( not the plastic or waterproof stuff) A couple of wraps on the educated finger and you are good to go. I have been using the stuff for many years on spinning as well as conventional gear. On conventional you can tape the thumb and also any fingers that are being chaffed from grabbing the line etc.
