tell us more about what you want to do with it.

'boat' setup's usually refer to conventional reels.

if you plan to cast more and have less experience with conventional reels maybe you should consider spinning reels.

tons of nice reels out there.

On my boat, it's Speedmaster & Torium.
Torium's a bit pricey though... and heavy.

more info

I have a couple of penn spinning reels 5500 and a shimano stradic so I'm all set on spinning for now.

We do a fair amount of flukin thru the summer and toggin now so I'd like a bottom setup but if I went conventional, I could do both, bottom fish and cast sometimes, right?

I have never used a conventional. Is the 965 conv? Are handles reversable on conv? I fish lefty, most of my guests are righty.

thanks, Jeff

No, generally not reversable... some reels come lefty; generally for a few extra $$$

I would go with the Tica 7' spin with a Okumha AV50 reel, I have two set ups for my boat and fish them hard and I beilve you can get the set up for under 100.$$ , nice and light can cast them all day. As for bottom fishing a conventional set up like some of the other guy's said the ABU 6500 and a rod of your choice there are plenty of off the rack rods the won't break the bank you can always have the rod tip changed over if you choose to use braid
M&D's carries this and he is a sponser of the site.
