14# Fireline, stay away from the power pro. Like Mike said, its only rated for 180 yds of 10# mono. The 712 is a small reel, and probably wont balance very well on 9 foot rod, but you can likley make do with it. You'd be better off picking up a 704 for the 9 footer and putting the 712 on a 7 or 8 ft schoolie rod.

Sol, I use 12 lb trilene xt with a short 6" wire leader for blues 9' tica rod. That reel will handle fish well into twenty pounds, just keep your drag on the loose side. Haven't broke one off yet.

Thanks for all the reply's.....

here is the deal... I took my ssg 550 and loaded it with power pro 30# and whaped it on the 9' er....

I took the 712z and put it on an 7' pinacle power tip... 29 bucks for the rod.... screw it... I'll mess with line next year for that rod.....
