I'd put up a windmill and sell the electricity back to the damn theives

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

1984 was a warning, not a guidebook!

It's time more people spoke up with the truth. Every time we let a leftist lie go uncorrected, the commies get stronger.

I wonder how much of this is being done to leverage the wind farm project. Expect next to hear how much your rates could down if the wind farm is approved.

I heard on the radio today it's to "help" them get out of Chapter 11
So, they'll probably drive a few people into chapter 11, helping themselves out of it.... Also, when they do get out of bankruptcy, I bet the rates won't go down.I remember right before they went into chapter 11 the execs voted themselves pay and pension raises, a day before they froze the workers salaries and bennies... yep corporate thieves... I don't think the windmaill factor is too strong, they have already said that the all the proposed windmills alone wouldn't be enough to power the cape and islands, I think it's just greed, plain and simple. NSTAR, Mirant, execs of both, all thieves.

Pardon my ignorance but get who out of chapter 11?
I heard it was the Cape Light compact that was raising rates if correct what about Nstar or does it matter?

This friggen blows

The facility would produce only 450 megawatts of power, a relative pittance compared with total demand.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
it would produce only 1 percent of newenglands demand for power and aside from the fact of creating new habitat for the oceans food chain its not even close for a good return on investment....................dont believe it.

I just can not see how they are doing this ? Many older people (not u 2 grumps) are on a budget!
Damm if your electric bill is 100.00 it will now jump to 180.00 ?????
I think I am missing something here? It just can not be right.

Never mind the cost of gas/oil and natural gas to heat your house going up.

Something is very wrong, it just can not jump that high that quick.

Can one of you guys do me a favor? If you have your bill handy, could you post what Nstar is charging per kilowatt hour? I want to compare it with what LIPA is charging me. They've also been hitting us with a "fuel surcharge" since Katrina, even tho oil is cheaper now than right before Katrina.

LIPA is a public agency, supposedly a "not for profit" outfit. It turned into one of the biggest scams ever perpetrated on Long Islanders. A full quarter of their employees make over six figures a year

Mike this was over the phone with a not too brilliant wife so if it's wrong - blame her

NStar for Falmouth, MA

Supplier charge per Kwh $ .07132

Delivery: Distribution .04645
Transfer .02677
Transmission .00500
Renewable En. .00050
Conservation .00250

Plus there is a $3.50 "customer charge"

Do ya think they could make this any more complicated?

well they're doing it ain't they

My town raised our natural gas rate 65% last January How do you think people felt about that increase in one month?
They just raised bot gas and electric this month

I think I will get those photovoltaic shingles

We can't complain too much with the electric Bruce. Even with the increase we are only paying 5.9 cents/kwh. Not bad compared to the Cape. Unfortunately I got Bay State Gas not Middleboro.

I work inside these power plants on a regular basis...I've talked to some of the bigwigs about this..

What you are seeing here is a VERY delayed reaction due to a number of circumstances....here's some info.

For the last several years due to pricing contracts on gas it has been costing more to buy the gas and bring it in than these guys get to produce the electricity. PG&E used to own all these plants up and down the east coast and they went belly up about 5-6 years ago due to this. They sold every plant while in bankruptcy to the new guys and they now have the same problem. Plus the DPU regulates rates...and it's catching up to them now because of the upside down nature they've been in for a while.

ALL of the big plants up here are COAL fired....Basically the "dirty dozen" plants up here....and the majority of the coal mined in this country is going to guess where...CHINA. China is the worlds largest coal mining country and they can't even supply their own economy with it so the US sends a very large majority of what they mine over there to help repay the US debt to China....It costs BIG BIG $$ to bring coal by boat into these plants every week to fuel the boilers...this at the same time the power companies are being absolutely slammed by the EPA to reduce emissions of the nasty by-products of burning coal. Salem Harbors, Brayton Point are two of the worst offenders...and to add these systems to clean the emissions will cost these guys hundreds of millions of dollars... On top of multi million $ cleanups of hazardous materials, spills, etc of stuff that would make your toe-nails curl.

It's a business folks, at some point these guys gotta make money or it's not a business anymore like the last guys found out...

I'M NOT defending these guys but it's easy to see where this is coming from when you understand the dynamics behind it. These plants are some of the DIRTIEST places you would EVER want to go. I have to throw clothes out at times when I get home.

If you guys want to do something contact your senators and reps. Tell them you want this mess cleaned up, tell them you want more subsidies for GREEN fuel. And yes if it means wind or solar then by all means. Tell them you want these plants converted to closed loop systems....We're burning fossil fuels at such a rate that in 10 years or less you'll be looking back at this today and wishing you had rates as low as this...it's only going to get worse.... And it's a world we're giving to our kids...I feel bad for what they're getting when I see stuff like this at the plants
