wonder if after "the prohibition" I'll get fined for using the rigged eels in my freezer..or is this just a live eel ban

could you still be fined if your caught with a dead eel (rigged)? I stocked up on those this year just for this reason.

ASMFC is still researching the American Eel with an eye toward listing it as "Endangered" or "Threatened". If that happens, they will be illegal to take or posess. But the commission probably will act to list them till late this year at the earliest.

That does not mean that a state could not prohibet their taking. Maybe RI did so.

Your not likely to see many Europeans eels over here. European eel stocks are in worse shape than American eel stocks.

What exactly do permanent markers have to do with fishing and eels and why would a person refer to someone or themselves as one?

now there will be more pressure on the mackrel and pogies for use as live bait , last year the macks were thin (had to work hard for them), but i saw and caught some pogies for the first time in 10 years
