I only wish they paid him the 7 year deal for big bucks. He would never

From what I've been hearing he wasn't a sellout. His agent called our new "GM By Committee" (THAT Worked REAL well with the Bullpen a couple years back) and said the Yanks made the offer. They thought he was bluffing and tried to call him on it.....guess they were wrong....nitwits.
and don't forget who his agent is...Scott Boras....that guys a ball-buster

Ruth Was TRADED...can't fault him for that
Clemens went to Toronto for 2 years before landing in New York.....and Beside Duquette made the statement that Clemens was "In the twilight of his Career"
Boggs left because Scott Cooper was Going to be "Da Man"...and not for nothing he wasn't exactly tearing the cover off of the ball after he left.
and thats just the nature of Baseball now-a-days.....try and name 10 players in the league who have actually stayed with there team for 10 years or more...you'd be lucky to name a dozen

At least we will not have to see that idiotic segment on NESN "In style."with his wife. Man that drove me nuts. It will be interesting seeing Damon cover center as he was diving all the time in Fenway, not to mention they'll need the entire infield to relay his throws. I guess anybody on second has a freebie to home. Hate to see him go but such is the way of baseball today. Makes me miss Yaz all the more.

Basically, with him and Matsui in the outfield, anyone on second can crawl home, and other teams will be going first-to-third all day long on anything hit to center. It's a big centerfield out there, much bigger than Fenway, and Matsui is almost as big a butcher defensively in left as Manny.
Is Damon gonna take two years off Randy Johnson and make him into the Big Unit again instead of the Big Eunuch? Mussina shows signs of slipping, too. Is he gonna transform Carl Pavano and Jared Wright into Cy Young candidates instead of career .500 pitchers? They still have lots of pitching issues to address

I'm beginning to think the thought process of Steinbrenner and the Boys on this one is "If we can't make our team better than we can make the Sox that much Weaker"
You're right about the pitching, they weren't Playoff caliber last year....and they are now a year older.

"Looks like Jesus, throws like Mary" - that's awesome !!
Oh well, lets hope we got his best years, his arm did suck, but the guy is an on-base machine.
Graffanino will take his place, he owes us a .300+ season after letting the ball go thru his legs anyways...
Go Sox!!!!!

Well Damon played well for us and he will be missed. But this will likely be his last contract and he's going for the money. Can't really blame him for that. It hurts so much because he landed with the Yankees.
I won't wish him any ill will though. He was a classy guy who was an instrumental part of the World Series team. He deserves a tip if the hat.
On another note, I watched the 2pm news confrence on Nesn. Is it me or did Larry Lucchino look like a deer in the headlights? And one of the new co GM's who was sitting on Larry's left must of been parched. Did you see him swigging the bottled water? Maybe there was vodka in the bottle instead!

How can this be a surprise to anyone?
If Damon was a loyal guy who didn't care about money instead of taking the highest offer from the team willing to spend it, he would still be playing out in Oakland for the A's !!!

Sucks to see him go....Sucks even more to see him go to the freakin Yankees! But, for an extra 12 million bucks more than what the Sox offered him who the hell can blame him. For an extra 12 mill i think we'd all do the same. Im not liking the new look Sox yet. what the F is going on!?

It is interesting, (besides the rumoroed Luccino issues) Theo left for some philosophical reasons, right? There was a significant division in what was best for the future of the team and he was not on the same page as some of the current brain trust. Maybe that is part of it - Henry has bought a team that way - or was it breaking up the team, recooping costs, and starting young?

I dont get it!! Damon needed 3 wheelbarrells to get his cash to the bank what did he need more for???? I say salary cap and not in the form of a team cap how about a player cap, if they love the game @ 5 million a year they can learn to love it @ 2 a year. How much money do these goons need, I think I will get my kind a new baseball bat for Christmas screw the Ipod

I'd love to be paid better for what I do and so would everyone else. I'd love to catch more bass and so would everyone else. Everyone wants to do better. More power to Damon. I have a real bad feeling about the Sox higher echelon. Seems all too familiar.

Well said. Do I like the fact that Damon is no longer leading off for the Sox? Of course not. Do I like the fact that he's now leading off for the Evil Empire? HELL no.
But the position of "...how much do they need...?", etc, just doesn't make sense to me. What Damon ended up with was basically a 30% increase over what he would have gotten had he stayed.
I know that if I was with Company X for a given amount of time, earning a decent wage, was happy there, had made some good friends, etc, and then Company Y came along and offered me 30% more pay, I'd be gone in a heartbeat. In fact, I've done exactly that at least twice that I can think of.
On the flip side of that, it's only fair to mention that both times I did it, I second guessed myself wondering if it was worth giving up the things I gave up for the extra money. In the end, the money always won out. Unfortunately, GMAC will not accept testimonials from my good friends at work in lieu of payment on the 2 new trucks I bought.
