What you would make jigs out of?
I don't like MDF etc. for that. I can't find other material that is stiff enough.

Bill, when I need to make a jig for around the shop, usually scrap birch plywood will do, maybe a few scraps of hardwood if needed also.

There's nothing wrong with glueing up some thinner hard maple if you can't find it thick enough.

I have some old butcherblock somewhere if you really need some.

What slip said. I like poplar on a birch ply base. All from the scrap bin though.

Go buy the February issue of Fine Woodworking. Article on getting more out of your drill press is excellent. Auxiliary table design is all laid out for you. I am going to build one myself this weekend. T track slots for securing fence, hold downs, v-groove blocks for drilling eyes and bellies, and table will tilt for end grain and angled bores! This is a must see article for all.
