I use a double taper line when I'm fishing a pond or river with no room to back cast,it is easier to roll cast that line verse a weight foward, while it is difficult to roll cast for any distince with the weight foward.
I find back casting a double taper a little tricky.

I'm thinking of this for the estuaries in situations like you guys have described. Drifting flies with a wet fly swing, etc.... The weight forward lines sometimes feel like they're hard to mend when a have a bunch of line out on the water. Maybe short casts in the surf, but not sure about that yet....
