Can't even beleive we didn't get a chance to catch! I'm in the same boat (or kayak, depends how you look at it). Gettin a bunch of big wood and trying to figure out what I'm going to throw it with. From the surf, not a big deal, plenty of big rods to handle them. From the yak though, the handle lengths just get to long and the big rods are just to cumbersome. I'm thinking 7' or so...Heavy muskie rod. Conventional for me. Let me know what your looking at.

I'm leaning in that direction, but probably 8' long. So I can be sure to swing the rod tip clear of the front of the yak. I've only done spin fishing, so I'll be going that way.

Look at the Compre series from Shimano...
I have 2 7ft'ers I use in my skiff, rater 10-20lb and 12-25lb respectivly.. they revamped the line so I dont know whats what this year...
I have had the 10-20 for ~8years and have caughtfluke to 9, bass to 30 and more bluefish than I can count on it w/o zero problem... they top out at ~100 clams and may have one to throw or troll 3oz lead...
