When all else fails, especially at the turn of the low into the start of the incoming on the outer beach the mags find fish worked very slowly on bar edges. Conservatively, I have over fifty Yo's in my stash. For instance the large Blue/black darter under a new moon in the fall is always one up on other plugs if they aren't eating needles. Add a black redgill and it just gets better.
Wood is good but it is not all there is. I still throw vintage 7 and 5 inch Rebels and 7 inch loaded Red fins can save the night when the wind is in your face and the Atlantic is in a foul mood. Hellcats by Heddon in yellow with a redface were for years the lure du jour in the CCBay.
You can limit yourself to wood and supporting the lure manufacturers who sponsor this site but even they would tell you to carry some plastic. I once asked Stan Gibbs if he could only have two lures to fish the beach with what would they be?
