Milestones, Firsts And Personal Bests For 06'?
So another season is coming fast.....given any thought to what you wish to accomplish this season? Are there any milestones you wish to achieve? New personal bests you hope to set? Anything you have not done or caught yet but wish to give it a go? Places you want to fish for the first time?
What say you my fishermen brethren?

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

Last year the goal was 35# and I got that, this year we'll go for 40#
But I'll be happy if I just learn more and catch more, I know that size will come.

I would like to catch more consistently this year. I got a 36 pounder last year, but the rest of the season was sporadic.

I'd like more than two nights in the year where there are actually fish on the beach pusing bait onto the shingle. One can only hope and oh yeah, a 100lb or better School Bluefin tuna.

Why even try.........

This will be my fourth year keeping a log. Every year my numbers have gotten better. My goals are to continue that trend, as well as sample new shoreline as much I can.

06 fishing targets...
Hmmmm, any of these will do for me (and I consider them all do-able, some more then others)
16# fluke (I can do this)
7.5# seabass (I can do this)
4# + scup (I like the way the bigones look)
striped bass boat (no targets, just fun fishing)
striped bass shore 62#or better (long shot I know, but that is my target)
tuna: 250# on something less then a 5/0
tuna 50# on 12# spinning gear
football on a 9 weight flyrod
20# abli (I know this fish is out there!)
12# bonito (ditto)
9# spanish mac (ditto)
23# bluefish ( It has been 25 years since I caught a bluefish > 20#)
12# tog ( I am due for this)
anysize whaoo at the canyon (never caught one)
anysize marlin at the canyon (never caught one up north)
a 60# or better yellowfin tuna (I love these fish!)
A couple 5# lobsters in my traps would be nice too
Like I said I would be happy with any of these but will probably fish the hardest for the fluke and seabass goals. why? I really like fishing for them.
Over the last few years I find myself fishing for what is biting at that time, instead of bassing myself to death all season. I find I enjoy myself much more and enjoy the bass fishing that much more when the season peaks and the bite is on. Fish smart! Don't kill yourself all season to be spent for when they do show.

Just have more fun than last year. I never put weights and lengths for goals anymore those days are gone for me. It's all about having fun. Going to do more fluke fishing and more beach fishing and hopefully with some of you's guy's. Paul

Post more, since I have been lurking here forever. Definitely fish more and with less live bait. I've been picking up some decent plugs and hope to master these a little better so I can be less concerned about whether the clams I just bought were packed in a 150 degree warehouse 3 years ago. More fun, too.

Ok I have a few that are doable I hope:
1. Striper over 50#
2. Fish Nomans more and get Sandmans fluke and seabass before he gets there.
3. Get out with my son more as he has more time now working on the water.
4. Last but far from least is get my dad out with me to Cuttyhunk and Nashawena as he is now 86 and fishing with your dad should come before all else right son?

A 40# on my own wood? Yeah I can live with that. Gainfully employed in an arseless shop, yeah that ,too.

I'm gonna be happy to just go fishing.
Catch some Pike on my plugs
Catch some trout on my flies
Catch some Stripers on my plugs
Catch some Steelhead, well probably on eggs in this case

Doesnt work that way.. tried it.. she had fun but didnt 'get' it...
As far as goals... just to keep fishing as much as I can w/o screwing up on the job, my research and woman......
My goal every year is a 15lb tog... actually it's 17.6lbs to beat the old mans record, but I'll take a 15 for now....
as far as bass... to keep catchin em... 50 is what everybody says, but really I dont care, just keep catching good bass, enjoy it and keep learnin....

I keep finding that my time on the water has gotten less and less...so my goal is to go as much as I can but more importantly not to take even one second of that precious time for granted!!!!

I've got lots of goals. I fish a lot and I plan to fish even more this year. I learned a lot last year but lost a lot of big fish in the process. Hopefully this year I can land a few more of the good ones.
Lets see.. I guess if I can fish
100+ nights again, get a 40# on one of my jigs in the ditch and a
40# on one of my plugs on a beach that would do it...
I'd also like to see some of the guys I give plugs too go large on them, that's a great feeling.
I'd like to try and find a few good spots closer to home. Maybe when we hit midsummer and things slow down I'll do some exploring closer to home. I'm 1/2 a mile from the water, but due to access issues I always end up driving 20 min down to the ditch.
I'd also like to try & hook up with Beachwalker when I'm down on Nantucket next time...
