Katie, an unfortunate precedent in schools today is that the "special needs" child gets the lion's Share of attention, help and counseling. Special Needs can mean many things like ADD, behavior, autism, emotional and physically challenged. I and my wife arer both employed by school districts. She in Kindergarten, where the horror stories get worse each year and I as an administrator who deals with all levels of educational facilities. School systems are so afraid of negative publicity, frivolous lawsuits by parents whose child they never disciplined and they believe the schools should and when they do the schools get harpooned because most of these kids parents are lowlifes. Now autism and physical or mental challenges are legitimate behavioral and developmental problems, the discipline and ADD stuff for the most part could have been prevented by more parental involvement. ADD has some factual foundation in chemical imbalance but some are just plain neglect from parents who cannot be bothered or, as usuallly is the case, are so far out themselves and their views on family structure, discipline and values so skwewed it's not funny.

Your boy obviously comes from a less than ideal environment. Unfortuantely they cannot touch him unless he actually physically acts out. Threats, taunts etc may get him a day or two off but until he acts out he is protected by law as a minor. Your rights and it is a right, to go to school, feel safe while there and be productive and learn as always, will be second to his. Sad but true. They are protecting you by keeping you out of school but they are also protecting him and they know he is a scumbag but the laws of the State have him covered. Being that he is young and stupid and more than likely to act out, your being home is probably the best place. Sorry kid, I know it stinks but that's the way it is.

Why even try.........
