The plug is pine and heavily weighted. It is "hand" shaped with a bandsaw and spokeshave. The front bevel is cut on the bandsaw (as the side profile is cut from a square block) and slightly hollowed. Originally I used a #3 and #7 gouge, which is precise but tedious (particularly in some maple ones) but recently I've used a Salty ball in the drill press and passed the plug on its side past it. Works pretty well. The plug is through wired, but the belly hanger is a sinker eye epoxied in (due to weight placement issues). I've used screw eyes in the maple ones. They swim with a slow wag, subsurface, like a needlefish only more pronounced, but as you speed them up the better ones hump the surface and dart/glide a bit. I haven't tested one in current yet. They look very promising for night fishing, but no fish has looked at them yet so who's to say. Still alot to learn about them.
