I have had exccellent luck with clams. I have also caught many with fresh herring. I have yet to catch on chunk pogie up this way. Maybe thats because we have'nt had pogies here for awhile. I did see a report somewhere that someone hads seen a school of them off of Point of Pines in Revere recently.

Pogey has always worked great in August and September for me. I always try to bring a little bit of everything whenever I go.

Anything fresh beats anything frozen. I rarely fish bait, but when I do, I like fresh pogies and fresh squid. Find a lighted dock in a harbor or marina, buy a couple of squid jigs and see if you can't jig up a night's supply of great bait.

If you have to go frozen, mackerel freezes well and satys firmer on the hook than most other frozen baits.
