Thumbs down sound off

I can't help bringing up this topic. I took a week off fishing the ditch. I was back this weekend only to find some pigs are fishing my spots. Coffee cups, gaderaid bottles, smelly plastic bags
This is something that pisses me off. Next week I will be spending part of my fishing time picking up someone elses crap. The rule stands you carry it in you carry it out. And don't let me catch you not doimg this. Thanks for letting me sound off.

Smokey it's getting really bad down there, I don't know where these litterbugs live but I catch some they better beware. I wonder if they litter their own property like that

The place is becoming a pigstie and it gives fishermen a bad rap. I hope a bunch of bad apples don't ruin it for us.

Maybe some signs stating the rule of bring it in, carry it out should be posted in strategic places and maybe it would help a little.

I'll be picking up other peoples garbage next time right along with you Smokey

If you see what car they drive, pick up the stuff and leave it next to their driver side door w/a (ahem) polite note asking them to pick up their crap.

If you see somebody throwing stuff down, (and with a decent number of people) yelling "PICK UP YOUR TRASH" might give them the hint... just be careful, you never know what kind of person you're dealing with.

Nothing like fishing a clean beach

In addition to just messing everything up , the trash draws rats. We seldom see rats till the summertime slobs move in and leave things filthy. You would think for their own good they would clean up!

Smokey , don't get in any skuffles over it. Too many nuts. Besides , your not with a 300 pound body guard anymore!

Thumbs down

When you buy your bait, they put it in the bag, so put your trash in that very same bag. What gets me is some people will do this, and then on the way out they toss it to the side of the path.

In many cases the guys on the beach get a bad rap. I'm not saying they don't litter, but PLENTY of stuff goes over the sides of boats and ends up at our feet.

Let's sick OX on them!!!

Unfortunately it's a problem that's been around for a while. Nobody enforces the existing rules & fines for leaving trash all over the place. People realize that they WILL get away with it. On the other hand, most of the parks are too slow to empty existing trash containers before they overfill in the first place....

over filled cans are not the problem . The corp of eng. empties the cans every night . People are just plain STUPID ! its lighter to carry it out than it was to carry in . The bait stores around here used to print there names on the bait containers for advertising then they were getting heat for " their " containers left on the beach . No more names but still the containers , broken beer bottles plastic bags , dead sea robins , wasted bait and the list goes on . Its the same way there except at least there are trash containers . Be way careful if your going to confront someone when your alone . Its not the best place to be over matched or out gunned . Ill be there Saturday I think Im going to do some clean up while the daylight shines . One problem with that is the slobs see ya cleaning up and they form another reason not to carry out their trash .

Chris - while the CoE might be good at emptying the barrels at the Ditch, it's not the only place where people litter... A lot of other places I've seen have the cans overflowing for days before they get emptied....

Like the end of my street for an example

I understand that John . At least they provide cans to throw it in . The beach I fish there are no cans ,no town employees who clean up , and trash everywhere . My 4 year old calls it the garbage beach and pleads to take her somewhere else .
The topic was started on the ditch and that is where I was talking about in the beginning . with the trash cans being emptied I was just stating that , that isnt one of the reasons why they dont pick up their trash . Its a problem everywhere , every state . I fish in 4 states every year and have seen some down right rudeness to our environment as have most .

If I were king of the world...

1) I'd first ask them politely to pick up their !@#$ing trash.

2) If a second request is required, it will be done with the muzzle of a .357 mag pressed gently against the jerk's temple.

3) There won't be a third request.

Friggin' idiots...

One thing that has bugged me at the Canal, specifcally at Scusset is the lack of trash barells. To the best of my knowledge there hasn't been a barell at Scusset for a long time. ????

when I was on the canal striped bass tourniment board we (the tourniment Directors)wanted to supply trash barrels for the length of the canal.
we went to the Army Corp of eng. and they said that we would have to supply spaceffic type & size barrels that their personal could pick up and no outside trash collection would be allowed.
This ment we would be responsible for a full time person thru the army corp.
lets just say it did not go any further.

Of course you're right Smokey. Way too many selfish slobs around the canal and allot of other fishing areas.

The two things about walking the beaches that bother me most are

1) the site of litter
2) and cleaned under-sized fish remains left on the beach

Littering laws are not enforced and few get checked for undersize fish. I would like to see massive fines and a few people get nailed, I think that might have an impact. I am talking $10,000 fines. A $100 fine for something that is not enforced is pointless.
