Purely speculation, bit I think in most cases people run a lot more fuel through thier cars than their boats. Most cars get driven every day where boats use a lot of fuel for short periods then hang around...

One reason is probably the high humidity conditions that boats are always in, the etyhanol has a high affinity for water, much bigger problem in boats than in cars, especially since most car gas tanks are sealed (airtight), but boats are not. Second reason may be due to the big difference in gas tank sizes. Plus the auto mfgs. have been building cars to run on ethanol for a number of years not, but not so the boat Mfgs.
