so wait? those places in gloucester that sold herring in the past will continue to be able to do so? aside from that nice fish! i was up there last tuesday for a few hours with plugs and caught some pollock to liveline but didnt get anythin :P

Nice fish. As for the tag - I'm no biologist, but I would think that they would want you to keep a tagged fish. If that one died of old age the tag would be a waste. I keep very few fish - but I would probably kill a tagged fish in a heartbeat because then someone gets to learn something from that tag. Tag or no tag - nice fish - enjoy.

yes, there is a difference between ocean herring and the ones coming out of the rivers which you cannot take/catch/possess. But as long as the big mid-water trawlers are allowed to continue to deplete the ocean herring we will have herring as bait.
There are zillions of tiny pollock around the harbor this year. Have never had much luck live-lining them from shore but I betcha if someone tossed a few in the livewell and headed offshore a bit they would come up with large!

Nice fish

All I have been getting from shore around the harbor are shorts. Let us know what comes back from the tag info .
