I grew up in Scituate and the SPIT was a prime time PARTY spot during the 70's quite a walk from the road off third cliff can you imagine 150 plus people with 30' high bond fires this place was the best , also with my bud chuck dragged a 16 canoe out there and rode the waves into the north river, He had a 1968 GTO rag top this was our ride I would sit in the back seat and hold the seat bar on the canoe so it would not fly out what a blast!!!!!!!!!!
never fished there but the clam's I got from there were the best not to speak of sunset duck hunting

The spit has become a recreational mecca for Scituate and Marshfield residents that have boats. It is like NY City over there during the day but at night the crowd thins out a bit. Stay away from there until after Labor Day if you want to fish. You can fish further up the river ot further down river at the mouth. Just be careful because 8' standing waves can set up across the mouth on an outgoing tide with and east wind.
