I wouldn't use it because I think it would taint the fish. Why not use cod liver oil? Put it in a spray bottle .

If you're going to cod liver oil route, just switch to bunker oil and all your problems and questions are answered about the fish attracting abilities ...
.... but I would not taste it or use it on my reel or any mechanical type stuff ....

Sturgeon fishermen on the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest use it on their baits, claim it works. I saw a study done on it, they found no real difference. Stick to what ever gives you confidence, and it will help.

Spraying the reels with WD40 will fade the lettering that is painted on the side plates.
