No permit needed to net live bait for personal use. The area of your net must be 200 sq ft or less. That translates to a 16' diameter cast net or smaller. Very few people can effectively use a cast net that big anyway. A 6 or 8 foot diameter net is all you need.

sounds like Niko's asking about a gillnet. I dont know MA regs, CT is $50 for 60ft x8 max length, 3" stretched net. or something like that
